From the recording Talkin' To The Dog

Wrote this song with a neighbor in Nashville when we lived in Tennessee. Our dog Belle also performs on the song.

Lyrics

TALKIN' TO THE DOG

VERSE:
I was walkin' down the street just the other day
When in a little sidewalk cafe
Sat a lady with a poodle on a diamond leash
She didn't like what I had to say
I said , "Oo, oo, parlez vous
Are there any little tricks you do"
Well, she slapped my face, said, "Excuse me, Sir!
Who do you think you're talking to?"

CHORUS:
I WAS TALKIN' TO THE DOG
I WAS TALKIN' TO THE DOG
Merely canine dialogue
JUST TALKIN' TO THE DOG

VERSE:
While I was payin' for my gas out at the ol' mill store
A fuzzy little pup was lyin' on the floor
Gettin' good belly rubbin' from this country girl
She'd stop an' he would beg for more
I said, "Oo, ee, can't you see
I'd like to get you doin' that with me"
Well, she knocked me down, stepped in my face
"Ma'am", I said, " I think you got me wrong, ya see"

CHORUS:

VERSE:
Ms. Alice Ewing asked me to a bar-b-que
Said: "Come to the ranch and bring your ol' dog Blue"
Later Blue an' I went out to watch the moon
She sneaked up on us sayin': "I want you"
I said: "Whoa, whoa, How could I know
Moonlight and me could ever move you so?"
I took her in my arms, she started laughin' out loud
Said: "Boy, I guess you'll figure out where you can go"

CHORUS:

BRIDGE:
When words get confusin' and there's strain an' doubt
These few lines always give us an out. Say:

CHORUS:
